2006 fitness

This morning, I went to a Gym in the city. I haven't been to one before, but Josh came along and was able to tell me how to use the machines so I didn't embarrass myself too badly. This time last year I started my walking, at 20 minutes a day three or four times a week. That's increased over time, however, so now I need to do an hour of walking every day to have the same effect. So I'm hoping if I switch from that to an hour at the gym three times a week, it will be more effective (and take less time). I've got at least another 10 kilos to lose (and about 20 cms) to be within a healthy range, so hopefully this will get me there.

The new year brings great potential, I am a fan of starting big projects like this at the beginning of the year.. you stay motivated long enough to get into routine. So we'll see how I go with it.

Man but i'm going to be sore tomorrow.

  2. Yeah, I was getting up half an hour earlier, going for a walk, then having a shower, breakfast and the like when I got home. I knew I wouldn't have time otherwise. For the gym I have to get up around 6am, catch the 6:40 bus, start at 7 when it opens, have a shower afterwards and catch the 8:40 bus straight to work.

And I am sore, as predicted :)

  3. "our" new years resolution involves eating more veges and less bread, so lunches are wraps instead of sandwiches, with lettuce etc :)

  4. You're an inspiration Damien. Dad has started on the sink side of the kitchen so i walk to the laundry to do the washing up. Since the drainer sits on the washing machine, I also need to dry the dishes and put them away so that should contribute to a tidier house. I'm trying to improve my typing skills so I can apply for jobs that aren't childcare related. I don't think i have much hope. My speed at the moment hardly rates because I make lots of mistakes and I won't cut my two long fingernails. I'll phone you soon Dayna to see how you're going. What did you do for New Year? or should I read comments on other posts?
    Lots of love to all

  5. Cheryl joined me at the gym yesterday afternoon. I hope she'll post something here in the comments (or as a new item) to say what she thought of the whole experience.

  6. It was really fun! The last time I was in a gym was in about year 9 for PE, so I didn't know what to expect. It was really good though. I tried out almost all of the equipment that Damien did. I wanted to take it easy though because I was worried I'd be sore at work today, so my muscles are feeling quite good. But I think next time I'll push myself a little more.

So yeah, I'm glad I went along and I'm looking forward to the next time :)

PS. You beat me to it! :) I was going to post today at work, but there was some kind of error when I tried to open the page :(
