We're just home from our first French lesson!It was cool, and scary too. It's at L'Institut Français d'Écosse, not too far from our place but about half an hour from my work (which gives me just enough time to make it after work). 2 hour lessons, once a week for fifteen weeks. Of course, we'll be going to Paris one of those weeks, but I think a week of culture-immersion should make up for missing the lesson *wink*!!
They're small classes, but the teacher seems nice. It's weird to listen to a French person with a Scottish accent when they speak English (she lived in Inverness for a couple of years I think). She's also said that she won't be speaking much English from here on in -- we got a basic guide to, "watch, listen, repeat, sit, stand". If all else fails, I'm just going to copy the rest of the class!
We're very excited to have Dayna with us!! It's going to be very much fun -- we'll have Christmas together, maybe we can set up the video conferencing for Christmas dinner (I know, I've said that before, but how about this year?!). Some yummy roast veggies ... actually, that reminds me, we've already got some in our 'fridge I really should cook up. Mmmm, roasty.
Okay, so I'm commenting on my own post, but I've been away for a while so I think it's okay. I just wanted to note that I've now installed the Français language pack on this Ubuntu laptop, and set it as the default language. I don't have a home directory anymore -- it's a "dossier personnel de glennji". And the little bin looking thing? It's a "corbeille". Right now I'm using a Navigateur Web Firefox -- how cool is that?

Bonjour,tres bien to hear from you. Mon francais est tres rusty.Comment c'est va?Yesterday we took Lisa, Carolynn and trinity to Shepparton for a calithenics competition. She had to be there from 12.30 until 7.30 so we decided to go shopping. Unfortunately this weekend the Hamilton's were in Bendigo for a wedding so we couldn't call in there for a couple of hours. We found a club where we watched the end of the grand final(AFL) had a soft drink and then had some tea. We collected the girls, called at macca's for them to get takeaways and then returned to Bendigo. We've had three busy weekends. With dad's birthday next weekend, and a visit from Tamara and Ray expected, the weekends will continue to be so. Au revoir mes amies.
ReplyDeleteok, I've not been online for a while. You know Glenn, at Queanbeyan the teacher that took us for French and German (before we moved) was Irish! That was weird too! :)
ReplyDeleteand the teacher who taught year 12 (form 6) French to me was Scottish. Miss Gordon. I don't think I've retained as much as Dad used to be able to pass on to me, but he used his French during the war.
